Whether you're forwarding the domain of a practice you just purchased, or you've been holding on to a domain for years that you'd like to use in print marketing that differs from your SEO domain, placing domain forwards or redirects is simple.

The first step includes getting the domain housed in the same account where your other domains live. Why is this helpful? Well, when it comes time to renew or cancel, you'll be able to do so with one login. We recommend managing both domains and hosting on your own Siteground account. (We receive no financial incentive for recommending them. We simply see faster load speeds, reliable hosting that contributes to SEO results, and a great user experience.)

Transferring Domain to Your Current Siteground Account

1. To transfer your domain to SiteGround, Login to Siteground, go to your Client Area > Marketplace > Domain Services tab. In the Add Domain Extras section, search for Domain Transfer > Get. Enter your domain name in the type-in box and click on Check Status.

2. From there, the email account that current owns the domain should receive an email with instructions on how to transfer it. This may include necessary keys / codes that will need to be entered into corresponding sections in your Siteground account. If you are not currently the owner. You will need the owner on that account to forward you the email and/or codes to release the domain for transfer. They will need to ensure it's also "unlocked".

3. Once the domain is unlocked (in the original management account) and domain transfer key / code has been entered into the new registrar (Siteground account), it could take 5-7 days for the transfer to complete.

4. Once the transfer is completed, you will be able to see the domain in your Siteground Account. From there, you will be able to place the forward (also called a redirect). In Site Tools, you can add redirects by going to Domain > Redirects. Choose the desired domain, fill in the URL you want to redirect to another and add the URL of the new page destination. When ready, click Create.

What If I Don't want to Transfer it?

You can simply login to the domain management account and place a forward without transferring the domain. If you don't have all domains and hosting accounts on Siteground and don't want to move, make sure you keep all the logins handy and remember to update the credit card on file with domains outside of your main Siteground account. If your payment method fails on a domain registrar account that we do not have full access to and manage on your behalf, we cannot be held liable if it expires and is resold to someone else. For this reason, we recommend taking the time to get your domains and hosting on one Siteground account and providing us necessary delegate access to allow us to assist you with renewals.
